Thanks for clarifying what you meant by "discs" (i.e., LP or Vinyl). So what you are saying is that you feel that the music industry ruined things by switching from Vinyl to the various multi-media formats and that the sound and impact of the music simply is not doing the songs justice. Is that correct??

Well…this is a similar track to several of your other discussions and I know what you mean. The whole approach for listening has changed and it's just different BUT I really do not think there was any secret plot to do this or wrong anyone. The second the online world started the changes began in every category and whatever literally "anyone" comes up with from day to day could be the new direction depending on how much money they have to do their product development and promote their cause. That is simply the way now (not just for music but for everything). I seriously doubt whether there is even a plan for what will happen tomorrow in terms of the direction of music. Plenty try to frame it but no-one really knows.

If there was a plan, someone would have projected that the internet eventually simply would not be able to hold the volume of music and media that is currently being posted there (i.e., Internet response time is very slow because they do not have the bandwidth to handle all this media – not just on personal accounts, but in enterprise too). In that respect, (and everything gets overdone these days) it's almost like it's turning on itself. But you can't stop this now…it has a life of its own. If I had a billion dollars tomorrow and wanted to change the direction of how things are done and had a catchy idea, I could literally obsolete whatever what was going on (or at least could give it a good try). It's not so much about the music anymore it's about money and the competition. The best that artists can do these days is to become more multi-facetted as they have to be able to be endlessly creative in the ways they market themselves and swim through all this change while at the same time protect their creative nature.

So sure…the Vinyl world was fun and albums were really known more as a "whole" piece of work and everyone knew the order, the cover art, all of that…but now you just have to adjust the way you take in your experience and hope that artists can continue to keep up their creative spirit.

Also, I think there is a lot more offered to individuals who prefer Vinyl these days…so you can still live in that world. More turntables are for sale, more artists are producing their work on Vinyl, more music shops are offering it, etc. so you can still stay in that world if you so choose for all the reasons you mentioned.

as you always was and always will be brilliant, insightful and intelligent in its assessment of debates, so like you for the clarity and ease to expose ideas without offending, some differences agitate them.
