you know ... those times when you need to run and escape and find the wildness in you-- You were 2 and 3-- and 4, 5, 6 ... and now, too, even at 15. I remember how once you needed me-- sometimes before, you know, before now. It's good you don'...

lol. Yes, they are parakeets. It's hard to take a good photo of them. I think they are albino ... they really do have red eyes (it's not just the flash). We're still getting used to each other, but I do love having birds around. They are playful a...

How sweet. Are they parakeets? I used to have parakeets when I was a kid. They are so fun. :)

Thanks for the story, Terri... It wasn't me who kissed the bloke ;)... Unfortunately, I'm no longer in my 20ies... But I noted a distinct "lightheartedness" when travelling to work on the tube on Nov. 5th. I had to laugh about his observation regarding the greatest danger in "laid-back Vienna" being a bad pastry. Well, compared to London or Paris Vienna is extremely laid back, I suppose. People from abroad usually associate Vienna with Apfelstrudel, Sachertorte, coffee, Wiener Schnitzel and Gruener Veltliner ;)... Yeah, I guess on the whole Austrians are rather laid back....

I myself didn't notice the tensions Americans felt working and living here in the pre-Obamian times. Ever since I moved back to Austria I've been working with and for Americans, haha ;)... But then I'm a rather peaceful chapesse, I suppose ;)...

No, I haven't read that particular book, Terri. But I hope you believe that what I said is not simply a construct of my admittedly over-active mind. The people like me, who do not quite belong to the "generation of 68", the ones who "grew up" in the seventies, so to speak, have all got the same problem. Actually, we were just discussing this among friends recently. And we were wondering why we still feel as we do. And we all came to the conclusion that the holocaust, for which we can't be held responsible, will still accompany us to the rest of our lives. The "coping with guilt" initiative only started when I had already finished my first degree, if I remember correctly.

With us, it's like the 2 generations before us were not able or refused to acknowledge what actually happened... But what I also have to say is that there was a very strong "resistance" movement in Austria, similar to the one in France. Unfortunately, the Nazis gained the upper hand...

Nowadays, I find myself as a split person. I have and always will be slightly left of centre, politically speaking. But, and here comes the split probem, I was threatened by three "foreigners" about 2 years ago when travelling back from work late at night on the underground. It was pretty nasty business.

People who are less "educated" than myself will probably let off steam in the way described in the article posted by Pete, especially now that the going has gotten really tough...

What you must also consider is that the state of the American economy always impacts on the European economy. Things do not look rosy. Many people lost literally everything when Lehman Brothers went down... And the chain reaction is unstoppable...

To put it in a nutshell... We are all in the same boat, the American blues is also the European blues...

Hey... thanks for the comments and the compliments on the sideburns... they have kinda become my trademark... I even made shirts that were just hair with no eyes or mouth or ears and it's hilarious that it's still unmistakable me lol. How've you been?

I think I'm going to pick up a ticket to see Madonna at Dodger Stadium after all. I got a copy of her CD and after listening to it in my sisters car for twelve days...I have to say that it's really growing on me. It's not until November so I have a couple months to figure it out but I think I'm going to go.

Wow...the pages are back now. How strange. That's good...that is my favorite blog...and there will be more to come with "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus." Thank goodness for the short-lived Sunday morning freakout...haha.

What happened to the Heath Ledger blog. The last comment is from Jan. 22 and a whole bunch of pages are gone. Such a bummer. Maybe you can write Ning support and have them restore it. I thought maybe it was some system thing so I checked my blogs but everything seems to be there. Bizarre...

I was watching Batman Returns on FX this evening and they have a new show they are advertising that is coming out called "Sons of Anarchy." It reminded me of that Lords of Dogtown pic in your blog - and the lead in this new one looks very much like Heath Ledger. I think it must be some sort of similar thing...I noticed that the lead looked like him almost immediately. Interesting how they do that...make an image live on.

It's a beautiful album, thus deserving of my passionate promotion ;-) I try to promote all things awesome and fabulous, and somehow, Teddy Thompson, A Piece of What You Need, and cupcakes just meet all the required criteria :-). Hope all is well in your world!

Ah, Terri, it's not until August 22 :(... So, still some time to got... But I'm going away on Thursday. High-school reunion - commemorating the death from cancer of one of my school mates earlier this year. I can't really afford to go away workwise at the moment, but I'd like to pay my last respects, since the woman in question was also one of my fellow students at Innsbruck University. I still can't believe that she's not around anymore! She was an impressive linguist and an extremely likeable person.

And you - enjoy LA! No doubt you will ;)...
