PY ON YOUR SIDE

it's just me.

2009 is the 20th anniversary of the invention of the world-wide web by Tim Berners-Lee. A Brit, yes ;)... When he gave birth to the idea in 1989 by writing the Hypertext Transfer Protocol as a research student at CERN, he probably was not aware about the "furore" his invention would cause... He's now at M.I.T. and President of the World-Wide Web Consortium...

@Deb ;)... At the moment, research at the WC3 focuses on the "Semantic Web"... This is Tim's pet subject... And I don't believe that the current problems with capacities for multimedia streaming can be resolved by software, i.e. better HTML, XML code, etc. The internet providers have to push for sth. faster than optical fibres as the transporting medium for multimedia streams, not to mention faster network connections, bridges, hubs, etc. etc.

@Terri ;)... Tim Berners-Lee is a humble chap, yes, and very, very enthusiastic. He's written a fascinating book about developing the www, "Weaving the Web". It's a good read. Not too many pages ;)... You might want to get a copy ;)

"My life would be bereft of meaning without the web" . . . lol. I think a lot of us could agree with that statement! Love the web . . . love the intelligence, enthusiasm, and seemingly humble nature of Tim Berners-Lee. Cool to put a face with the inventor of the greatest invention I've had the pleasure of incorporating into my own life . . . :)

Wow...I didn't realize it had been so long. Yes, the W3C Consortium. I'm on that site all the time relative to my job. Well, hopefully now they are trying to resolve some of the current issues of capacity and performance with multimedia. Cool video!! Thanks.
